The temperature of our blood os responsible for the feeling of hotness or coldness. Our body maintains an average temperature of 37*C, regardless of outside temperature.
But whenever there is a change in internal temperature , the body makes some adjustment to bring it back to normal.
This process is regulated in the brain . It raises the temperature of the blood when it drops; and cools it, when the temperature is too high.
When the blood temperature is dropped, sympathetic nervous system is informed to go into action. Some glands secrete enzymes to burn up oxygen more rapidly. Oxidation of muscles and liver increases. The blood vessels of the skin contract, so that less heat is lost by radiation. When the temperature and we shiver. Shivering of the body produces heat.
When temperature rises, the oxidation process is slowed down and skin vessels are dilated to eliminate excess heat by radiation and perspiration .
The sweat that comes out of the pores of our body is like a shower that washes the body from within . If the air near your skin is humid, the rate of evaporation is increased , your body loses heat in this way and you feel cooler .
